I’m Kelly, founder of Keep Me in Suspense, and I’m a huge story junkie.
You know how they say to imagine your perfect day? Well, mine would involve books, TV shows, movies, music, and maybe a podcast. I’m kind of like Bubba on Forrest Gump, only instead of shrimp, I could list dozens of kinds of stories. See what I did there … referencing a movie? I can’t help myself!
Picture it with me.
I’d wake up slowly. I’d lounge around in bed for a while, reading an ebook on my phone then browsing social media to see what’s new. By this point, you won’t be surprised to learn that my social media feed is filled with story-related content. I’d sift through, noting release and premiere dates for my favorites.
Next, I’d get up and dressed in my comfy clothes for a day of working at home on my own novels.
Did you know? I’m a novelist.
I’d eat breakfast at my desk, then dive into the latest suspenseful story that’s been swirling around in my mind. There’s always something swirling.
My husband works for me, and he usually makes me lunch. He’s a good one. So, I’d eat the lunch he made while telling him about the story I’m in the middle of writing. Or I’d go to lunch with friends. Said friends are usually authors, too, and we talk about … you guessed it, stories.
I’d do more creating in the afternoon, which might involve work for a branding and marketing client. When I’m not completely immersed in some kind of story, I work via my consultancy, Blum Creative. I partner with clients who are also in the entertainment field or who create a charming consumer product that I’m excited about. It’s fun that way.
By the time dinner rolls around, I’m ready for more stories. I often shower this time of day—if I haven’t already—while listening to music on a little Bose speaker my husband got me for Christmas one year. Story-based music tends to be my favorite. I love a rousing song that makes you feel right there. Brad Paisley’s “Then,” anyone? Or Bon Jovi’s “Living on a Prayer?” I have so many favorites.
I’d eat dinner with my husband, and maybe some other loved ones. It’s always good to spend time with our grown sons plus our youngest son’s girlfriend. Maybe other extended family or friends would join us, too. I love a nice, cozy restaurant, so I’d probably go there on this ideal day. We’d hang out and talk a while. Then I’d take a nice walk.
By eight or nine o’clock, though, there’s no place I’d rather be than in front of my TV or at the movie theater. My husband and I would watch whatever was new that day until eleven or twelve, when I’d read a little more of that ebook and go to sleep, ready to do it all over again.
I also love nature, so an outing to swim, hike, or explore some scenic beauty would always be welcome. I like to combine nature with my stories. A walk in the park while listening to an audiobook, writing on my laptop with a gorgeous long-range mountain view in the distance, or reading a paperback at the beach all sound dreamy.
Whatever I’m doing, stories are never far from my mind or heart. After family, they’re sort of my lifeblood.
I hope you’ll subscribe to get the daily(ish) deals and reveals on suspenseful stories you’ll love.
Stay tuned, and enjoy! We’re going to have a lot of fun together.
